I don’t have cable. There I said it! I don’t have cable because I discovered that with rabbit ears and internet I can get all of the basic local channels and Netflix, Hulu, and other free channels as well.
I have to admit that Netflix allows me to watch many movies and original shows…. without commercials! Initially, I realized that I could sit and watch TV uninterrupted! I loved it! It was great! No commercials means, no waiting to see the next scene, and it cut down on my viewing time by at least 10 minutes per movie or show. But, then I noticed that I couldn’t make my little “runs” that I used to make, you know – to go to the bathroom, get a drink refill or grab a little snack. Although, I had the remote so that I could pause the program, it seemed to me that I enjoyed the commercials for what they offered – a limited time for a break that would keep me focused on completing the task and achieving the goal! Have you ever experienced interruptions in your life that seemed bothersome or just plain inconvenient? Sometimes life’s interruptions are really much needed commercial breaks! Psalm 46:10 tells us “Be still and know that I am God!” We think of being still as not moving, but actually the Hebrew definition is to stop striving and to surrender. When is the last time that you took a break from the busyness that is your life and surrendered your will to God? How often do you stop striving for “things” or just keep going because you have so much to do? I encourage you to take a commercial break in your life and refocus on what God has for you. Have a planned interruption and reconnect daily with the Lord. You will be pleasantly pleased that as you draw near to God He will draw near to you (James 4:8) Don’t worry, taking a break won’t interfere with what you are trying to accomplish, it will only clarify your direction. Just be still – He is still God!
